Data Steward

This learning path is designed for Data Stewards who are responsible for ensuring enterprise data remains accurate, complete, trusted and fit for purpose.

Data Stewards play a critical role in data governance by managing data quality issues, investigating exceptions and ensuring data is corrected at source systems.

CryspIQ® follows a fundamental principle:

Data is never cleaned or corrected during processing. Data quality issues must be resolved at the source system.

As a Data Steward, you:

  • Are a registered user within Microsoft Entra ID.
  • Own the quality of assigned datasets.
  • Monitor Data Quality exceptions.
  • Investigate records waiting in the Parking Lot.
  • Work with source system owners to resolve issues.
  • Approve or advise on data access requests.
  • Monitor stewardship performance.
  • Consume enterprise data through queries and dashboards.
  • Use Natural Language Query to access trusted information.

Understanding the Parking Lot

One of the most important responsibilities of a Data Steward is monitoring the Parking Lot.

Records enter the Parking Lot when required contextual information cannot be found during processing.

Examples include:

  • Missing Date of Birth
  • Missing Gender
  • Missing Employee Identifier
  • Missing Customer Record
  • Missing Location
  • Missing Asset

These records are temporarily held until the missing context arrives.

CryspIQ® automatically releases records once the missing information becomes available.

No manual intervention is required within CryspIQ® itself.

The Data Steward's responsibility is to investigate why the context did not arrive from the source system.

Understanding Data Quality Exceptions

When data fails validation rules it is stored in the Data Quality Exemption area.

Examples include:

  • Invalid values
  • Missing mandatory fields
  • Incorrect formats
  • Business rule failures

Important

Data is never corrected inside CryspIQ®.

Instead:

  1. Identify the issue.
  2. Investigate the source system.
  3. Correct the data at source.
  4. Re-submit the record.

Once corrected data arrives, the exception is automatically resolved.

This ensures enterprise data remains trustworthy and auditable.
